A recap of the present-day heating boiler types

A recap of the present-day heating boiler types

When you choose your next gas boiler there are a multitude of things you want to take into the decision. As well as the cost involved, the quantity of hot water required at any time is also important, how efficient the heating boiler is and what space you have accessible for the installation.

The most common central heating boiler types are:-

Gas gas back boilers

In the past back boilers were frequently fitted in families, if you look cautiously in the chimney you might see the back boiler fitted out of sight, the coal fire frequently hid the back boiler which was at the back of it. If you are going to change or boiler you will not be installing one of this type as they had certain disadvantages and in particular low water pressure, installation requires a lot of space and in this type of boiler it needs to be sheltered somewhere. However if you currently have a back boiler then a transparent substitute could be your best option.

Most times, back boilers are not very efficient, but the modern gas back boilers are more efficient now, so by replacing your old back boiler, you could make large savings on your annual heating charges.

The latest Combination gas fired boilers

In recent years the most popular type of central heating boiler sold is the combi heating boiler. They are economical and small enabling them to be fitted into small spaces. Heating water direct from the cold mains takes away any wait time for hot water - consequently you get an endless stream of hot water.

A combi is also more economical than other forms of gas boiler. Because combi boilers dont use an external hot water cylinder, there is no water tank to heat first, and no need to reheat the same water once again if youve let it go cold. A disadvantage of this can be that the central heating cannot furnish hot water to several water taps simultaneously.

Unvented central heating gas boilers

system boilers use a water tank to store hot water. This means that the space demands are larger. One benefit of this type of central heating system is as many of the central heating system constituents are built into the heating boiler allowing a speedier and cost installation.

An advantage of the hot water cylinder is that it helps the drawing of several streams of hot water simultaneously. You can get a good water pressure from a central heating system gas boiler by installing the hot water cylinder high in the house.

Open vent system boilers

The most familiar household central heating system is a vented gas boiler. They come with two water cylinders to be installed in the loft., the airing closet is still required for the hot water storage cylinder and overall this takes a deal of space.

The hot water storage tank is supplied by one of the cylinders in the loft.

Water expands when heated and this is facilitated by the second cylinder in the attic. The only limitation on hot water supply now is the capacity of the hot water tank which will take a while to heat up fully.
