Enhance your central heating system with a new boiler
As the cold winter approaches the nights get longer and the coldness creeps in, so we must all be prepared, and the best way to do this is via a central heating system. By centrally heating your home, you can make it more comfortable, inviting and relaxing.
Most heating systems compromise of a gas boiler; central heating radiator and pipework, there are basically two different sorts of gas central heating systems, one being a pumped system and the other being a vented system.
Popularly used are pumped systems which comprise of a main feed and expansion water tank that heats up and transmits the heat through pipework to secondary heaters (heating radiators). The expansion tank does allow for any water expansion that may occur.
The vented system on the other hand is a sealed system where there is no core heating. It’s basically closed, so there is really no need for any water tanks and the space they require. This system offers a major benefit in that it reduces the risk of leakage and prevents other risks such as airlocks; colder countries like Russia can reap great benefits from this systems since it avoids the risk of frozen pipes.
So the question now is, why do we need central heating? Is it really needed?.
One of the greatest advantages of central heating is its capability to increase the temperature inside a house or office very quickly without creating any noticeable effects in the air immediately surrounding you. Before the gas central heating system came into existence, other heaters like electric and storage heaters were used to keep the house warm or even coal fires. These primitive heaters invariably resulted in a harsh, sticky and smelly atmosphere.
The gas central heating systems are free from all these drawbacks but they need regular maintenance to keep them functioning reliably. Spring and summer often sees these systems shut down and completely ignored, only to be abruptly turned on when a chilly wind blows in. Instead it is recommended that you gradually bring them into use during autumn so that if you spot any problem you can quickly contact an engineer.
It is also important to remember that most home gas central heating systems allow in dust or air, thus requiring regular drainage. The best way to do it is to keep a bucket under the valve, and slowly open it to allow all the water to come out; before closing the valve, ensure that no more water is coming out.
